Personalized engagement rings – everything you need to know
Many women have chosen their dream engagement ring since they were young. Although each woman’s vision for the ring design is different, one thing they all have in common is the size of the diamond. The bigger the diamond, the more beautiful and sparkling it is, right? Maybe, but as you’ll see below, the answer is not entirely clear…
How can you identify the quality of a diamond?
To identify the quality of a diamond set in a gold ring, use the system of criteria known as the 4Cs:
- Color – The color of the diamond affects its value, with the perfect stone being a colorless diamond.
- Clarity – Clarity is measured by the imperfections on the surface of the diamond. A flawless diamond is one that is perfectly clear. The clarity level decreases as the diamond becomes more flawed and has more inclusions.
- Cut – The shape of a diamond's cut affects how light is refracted and the level of sparkle the diamond creates.
- Carat – The weight of the stone or carat is the size of the diamond.
What is the difference between treated diamonds and synthetic diamonds?
-
Treated diamonds
Treated diamonds are natural diamonds that have been created by geological processes and then treated to enhance their appearance, in terms of clarity and color. Keep in mind that these enhancements may not be permanent.
Treatments to improve clarity may include:
- Laser drilling to lighten or remove blemishes and inclusions that appear dark.
- Filling fractures in a diamond – using molten glass-like lead. The filling allows for improving clarity and masking the fractures.
- Irradiation – is designed to change the colors of diamonds to green, blue, yellow, black, and more.
- Softening – A controlled process of heating and cooling sometimes used after screening to change the color of a diamond to orange, brown, or yellow. This process can also create pink, red, and purple colors.
- High-temperature pressure – a method using machines used to grow synthetic diamonds. This process can, for example, turn brown diamonds into colorless ones.
- Coatings – Applying a silica coating to a polished colorless diamond can produce a variety of natural-looking colors, including pink, orange, yellow, or purple.
-
Artificial (or synthetic) diamonds
Synthetic diamonds are created in a lab from the same material that natural diamonds are made of – pure carbon. The synthetic diamond has the same sparkle, clarity and aesthetics as the natural diamond that is mined from the earth.
At Autumn Luxury Jewelry, we use only natural diamonds , unless you have requested otherwise.
What type of diamond is recommended for an engagement ring?
Diamond classification separates them according to their physical and chemical properties. Expert gemologists can evaluate the atomic composition of the diamond, analyze its growth pattern and color, and conclude whether it is natural or synthetic:
- Natural diamond – a white diamond, or what we imagine when it comes to diamonds.
- Lab-grown diamond – a man-made diamond produced in a lab and is cheaper than a natural diamond.
In fact, choosing the right type of diamond for your engagement ring depends not only on personal taste but also on your budget. Keep in mind that purchasing a delicate engagement ring set with a synthetic diamond will allow you to choose an elegant and impressive ring at a cheaper price than a ring set with a natural diamond.

What size diamond is best for an engagement ring?
We believe that there is no such thing as a recommended size, we believe that everyone has their own taste and budget.
How do you check the quality of the gold in the ring?
The purity of gold is measured in karats and is mainly classified as 24, 21, 14, or 9 karats.
- 24 karat gold consists of 100% gold without any alloy mixed in.
- But ornaments and jewelry cannot be made from this material, because it is very soft and delicate.
As for gold jewelry for women or men, most of it is made of 14 or 18 karat. Which represents the percentage of pure gold in the alloy. 58.5% / 75%
An easy way to find out the purity level of gold rings is to look for the karat stamp engraved on them. Every gold jewelry designer is aware of their obligation to mark the karat mark on every piece of jewelry they create and offer for sale.
That is, if you have gold rings set with gemstones and stamped with the 18K mark, it means that the gold in each ring consists of two parts: 18 of which are gold; and ligure, which is the shade of gold.
What are the differences between white, red, and yellow gold rings?
The main difference between the colors of gold lies in the metal alloy used to make it. For example:
- White gold is an alloy of gold with nickel and zinc.
- Yellow or red gold is an alloy of gold and copper, with the final shade depending on the amount of copper added to the alloy.
What are the common designs of engagement rings?
There is a huge variety of engagement ring designs, with the most common this year including spectacular designs, such as:
- A gold ring set with an oval-cut purple spinel and diamonds .
- A special gold ring set with marquise-cut diamonds
- An engagement ring set with a central emerald-cut diamond, princess-cut and baguette-cut diamonds.
How do you know which type of engagement ring to choose, a gemstone ring or a diamond?
To choose the perfect ring, consider what best suits her lifestyle and personality. In addition to your budget, her personal style and daily activities are the main considerations that should guide your choice. Here are two recommendations that match different personality traits and styles of engagement rings:
- A traditional and elegant style – if she wants a classic engagement ring, a gold ring set with an emerald-cut diamond and trillion-cut diamonds on the sides – offers a great alternative to the traditional, timeless solitaire ring.
- Modern and contemporary style – If she wants to forgo the traditional center diamond altogether, you can consider a gold ring set with a square rhodolite stone and diamonds; or other delicate engagement rings set with gemstones such as: a gold ring set with a princess-cut tanzanite and diamonds on the sides.

On which finger is it customary to wear the engagement ring?
In many Western countries, it is customary to wear the engagement ring on the ring finger of the left hand, out of the belief that this finger has a vein that runs directly to the heart, the vena amoris, meaning the vein of love.
Of course, anyone can wear the ring wherever they please.
How can the ring be maintained over time?
When you have a gold necklace or a diamond ring, you want it to keep sparkling forever. But, without a proper cleaning and maintenance routine, the jewelry can lose its luster.
You can always take those engagement rings or wedding rings that you love to your heart to a jeweler to have them professionally cleaned. But you may prefer to clean your gold rings at home. It's not complicated and not expensive, here are some tips to help you maintain your precious jewelry:
- Cleaning a gold ring: It is recommended to place the jewelry in a container with boiling water, dish soap, and lemon salt. You can soak it or scrub it with a toothbrush.
- Cleaning a gemstone engagement ring – It is important to find out what type of cleaner is suitable for the gemstones in the ring. In general, a mild dishwashing liquid diluted with water can be effective in removing dirt that has accumulated on the ring, while preserving the gemstones. Soak the ring for about 15-20 minutes, then brush with a soft toothbrush. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
In any case, it is recommended to keep each piece of gold jewelry in a separate box, to avoid scratches caused when the pieces of jewelry collide with each other.
Where is it recommended to purchase an engagement ring?
One of the benefits of buying an engagement ring online is the extensive access you get to a wide variety of styles and designs. In fact, you can find almost any style of ring you can think of. And if you can't find the style you want, you can also have a custom engagement ring designed for you.
