A little about diamonds, qualities and how to know if the diamond is real?
During my years in the profession, I have seen quite a few diamonds that clients brought to me for re-setting/design changes and they were fake. Therefore, it is important to note that you receive a valid document stating that the stone is a real diamond or, in the case of larger diamonds, a gemological certificate from a recognized institute.
How are diamonds characterized today?
There are several characteristics that characterize each diamond, and the standards are generally uniform in Israel and around the world. These characteristics may be part or all of the following list:
- The color of the diamond.
- The degree of cleanliness.
- The degree of polishing.
- The shape of the cutting surface of the facet joints between the faces.
- The weight of the diamond (expressed in carats).
- The diamond shape.
These parameters are also true for small, medium, and large diamonds.
Difference between a real and fake diamond
I am often asked why I should buy a real diamond rather than a cheaper fake. There are several correct answers to this.
- Diamond is the strongest stone in nature and will therefore last you forever.
- A diamond retains its shine forever.
- A diamond will not tarnish, scratch or change its color.
- Large diamonds have business value (for example, buying real estate or gold)
How do you choose a diamond engagement ring?
According to Jewish law, wedding rings like the one the groom wears on the bride’s finger under the chuppah during the Kiddushin ceremony cannot contain gemstones or diamonds. For this reason, when buying an engagement ring, it is an opportunity to choose a ring with a diamond, and if anything, to choose a diamond, beautiful, special, spectacular in its beauty, and one that will remain forever as a keepsake.
In my personal opinion, the biggest is not always the best and the cleanest/most beautiful is not always the best. I would be happy to explain to you my considerations in choosing each diamond for each piece of jewelry.
My professional knowledge will help you choose which diamond should be set in which piece of jewelry, of course, depending on the piece of jewelry.
The considerations when choosing a diamond are related to the color of the gold in which you will set the stone, related to the comfort of each wearer, related to the question of whether you prefer size over quality or the reverse, and so on.
For small diamonds, the weight and quality details will be included in the invoice, which is also valid for insurance purposes. For larger diamonds (over 0.30ct), you will receive a gemological certificate from a recognized objective institute with the diamond's value.
