Black Diamonds - Everything You Need to Know

There are natural black diamonds and dyed black diamonds.

On the Black Diamonds website, they are dyed with the best quality. But don't worry, this is a high-quality dye that never fades.

In fact, the black diamond is a natural white diamond, a white diamond whose color or cleaning was not natural and was colored black.

The advantage of this is of course the price. The diamond looks just as sparkling and strong as a regular diamond, because it is indeed a natural diamond, but its price is much cheaper than a natural black diamond or a white diamond.

The black diamond is back in fashion

In recent years, black diamonds have come back into fashion in a big way. They are combined with other black or white diamonds or even colored gemstones.

The black diamond has a lot of drama and elegance that is very connected to the world of design in general.

You can see in the collections on the site rings set with black diamonds, small black diamonds, earrings set with black diamonds, bracelets and pendants.

Why should you choose a black diamond for setting in jewelry?

The main reasons for choosing a black diamond for setting in jewelry are:

  • The price of a dyed black diamond is much cheaper than a white one.
  • The black diamond is so dramatic and unique that its presence cannot be ignored.
  • Black goes with everything 🙂
  • The diamond is hard and durable, and no flaws can be seen in its shape or level of clarity.

The natural black diamond:

A natural black diamond is called Carbonado by professionals. It is a natural and extremely hard diamond. Black diamonds were nicknamed carbonado (carbonized) after they were discovered in active mines in Brazil in 1843, due to their distinctive black hue. The black diamond has a slightly porous appearance with small holes that give it a sponge-like appearance, with a shiny shell and a smooth shell on one or all sides.

Scientists still argue to this day about how black diamonds were created in nature. Some claim that the origin of the black diamond is in a meteorite that crashed on the surface of the Earth. Other scientists claim that the special diamond was created deep in the Earth's core and that as a result of movements in the core and following a volcanic eruption, the carbonado reached the upper layers. Some also claim that the black diamond was created by extraterrestrial intervention, and others believe that the carbonado was created as a result of the remains of a 4 million year old supernova.

Characteristics of the black diamond

For many years, black diamonds have not been as prestigious as their white or colored counterparts. A carbuncle diamond belongs to the colored diamond family (fancicolor), and is formed naturally deep in the earth under conditions of immense heat and high pressure. The black diamond is made of polycrystalline material, usually composed of small crystals and characterized by a multitude of internal bonds, making it difficult to polish, does not have cleavage planes as in a regular diamond, and is harder and more durable.

Most black diamonds are mined in Brazil and Central African countries. To date, black diamonds have also been found in mines in Russia and North America. In most cases, they are found close to the surface, in a layer of alluvial deposits.

It is worth knowing that black diamonds can also be produced in a laboratory, there is a special process for enhancing and coloring ordinary, poor-quality diamonds to turn them into black diamonds. In fact, most black diamonds have undergone some treatment to achieve the shiny appearance suitable for setting in jewelry. For this reason, the price of a black diamond is usually cheaper than ordinary diamonds, and certainly compared to the high prices of fancy-colored diamonds. At the same time, a completely natural black diamond is considered rare and therefore its price is much more expensive than ordinary diamonds.

It is important to note that black diamonds can be mined in nature but are difficult to find. Miners usually manage to find black diamonds the size of a pea, but in many cases the carbonado is attached to other crystals and therefore cannot be polished. Black diamonds are a hard and durable mineral, natural carbonado scores a 10 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, meaning it is harder than a regular white diamond.

In different cultures, the black diamond is associated with various strange folktales, legends, and superstitions. For example, in Italy, couples who have encountered a crisis in their relationship are advised to touch a black diamond in order to live happily again. In India, the black diamond is associated with the name of the goddess of death, Janu.

In conclusion, a black diamond upgrades any piece of jewelry and adds breathtaking beauty. It is a one-of-a-kind diamond and is usually inexpensive, so it is an excellent choice and a worthwhile investment.
